Inspection Work Scheduled for Sherman Minton Bridge

New Albany, IN – Bridge inspections are scheduled to begin Tuesday, March 23 as part of the Sherman Minton Renewal project. The inspection work is scheduled from March 23 to April 18 and will require daily lane closures.

Lane closures are needed to allow the teams to safely conduct the inspection. Drivers will encounter alternating lane closures over the four weeks and can expect to find one lane closed in one direction during the day. The westbound closures will occur March 23 to April 1 and begin daily around 7 a.m. and end around 3 p.m. The eastbound closures will occur April 6 to April 18 and begin around 9 a.m. most mornings and end around 7 p.m.

The timeline and schedule of the closures are subject to change due to weather delays and other factors. No work is scheduled from Friday, April 2 at noon through Monday, April 5 because of Good Friday and the Easter weekend. The inspection process builds upon the preliminary bridge inspection work conducted in April 2019.

Inspection work will be done on the upper and lower decks of the bridge. Technicians will use under-bridge inspection vehicles and man lifts to evaluate the condition of the bridge and take measurements of structural elements. The information gathered will verify the repairs that are planned for construction which is scheduled to start in late spring of this year.
