Phase 2 of the Sherman Minton Renewal project started December 12 and lasted until early 2023. This phase included continued painting, the replacement of part of the lower deck and any necessary steel repairs as the deck was removed.
During Phase 2, one lane was closed in each direction to allow contractors to work while the bridge remained open. One eastbound lane continued on the upper deck with the two westbound lanes while the other eastbound lane remained on the lower deck. Barrier walls were used on the upper deck to separate traffic and on the lower deck to separate the construction zone.
The temporary crossovers remained in place in both Indiana and Kentucky to allow an eastbound lane of traffic to shift to the westbound direction.
