Updated Schedule: Sherman Minton Bridge Westbound I-64 Top Deck Lane Restriction

The Sherman Minton Renewal team has re-scheduled the extended lane restriction originally scheduled to begin on Friday, March 8.  Weather forecasts are calling for over an inch of rainfall Friday evening which will prevent the opportunity to pour concrete on the upper deck.  To avoid additional delays, the I-64 Westbound top deck (right lane) restriction will now be implemented on or after 7 p.m. Wednesday, March 6 until 11 a.m., Thursday, March 7.

The lane restriction will prevent access to the New Albany exit ramp, Exit 123, during the noted times.  Traffic will still be able to continue Westbound I-64 by using the left lane as they approach the I-264 interchange.

Additional I-64 Westbound top deck (right lane) restrictions are still scheduled as follows:

  • 6 p.m. Friday, March 22 until 1 p.m., Saturday March 23
  • 8 p.m. Thursday, March 28 until 9 a.m., Friday March 29

Weekend Directional Closure:

Westbound I-64, from Kentucky to Indiana, will be closed on or after 10 p.m. on Friday, March 15 until 6 a.m. on Monday, March 18.  This full directional closure will allow crews to work safely as they begin placement of new concrete on the top deck.

During the westbound I-64 directional closure, the I-64 westbound exit ramp to Spring Street will be closed along with the I-264 westbound to I-64 westbound ramp.

While the westbound directional closure is in place, the suggested alternate route will be I-65 and I-265. Regional traffic signs and variable message boards will be posted in the project area well in advance, notifying motorists of the closures and alternate route.

Through traffic that bypasses I-65 will not be able to cross the Sherman Minton bridge.  This traffic will be required to exit to I-264 and then Bank Street.  Detour/Alternate Route signage will be in place directing traffic back to I-64 eastbound, then continue to I-65 and the designated alternate route.
